Charleston County Zoning and Planning is looking for a Landscape Architect to support the Site Plan Review process and other planning and zoning functions.

In this role, you will review development applications and design plans, interpret zoning requirements, conduct site inspections, and work with applicants, staff, and other partners to help move projects through the review process.

This role may be a good fit if you have experience with land use, site design, development review, or planning and enjoy combining technical review with clear communication and collaboration.

SALARY RANGE:$64,209 - $84,156 Estimated Annual Salary

Duties and Responsibilities

This position will be engaged in the review and processing of development applications and design drawings for conformity with the zoning ordinance, best management practices, and other technical requirements within a collaborative and team-oriented work environment. Other duties include site inspections, code compliance, participation in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) when activated, and special projects as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Planning, or a related field.
• Three (3) or more years of related professional experience.
• Valid South Carolina driver’s license.

Skills That Will Help You Succeed

• Knowledge of land use planning, land development processes, and site design concepts, including grading, drainage, plant materials, architecture, and infrastructure.
• Ability to interpret zoning ordinances and other technical requirements.
• Ability to review development applications and design plans and clearly communicate findings and required changes.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly through verbal, written, and graphic communication.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with applicants, coworkers, and other stakeholders.
• Ability to manage assignments reliably and respond to project and department needs in a timely manner.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office or comparable office productivity software.

• Experience with GIS.
• Experience with Bluebeam or similar digital plan review software.
• Experience with EnerGov or similar permitting software
