What You'll Do: - Patrols and observes swimming pool areas; prevents ball playing, tag games, fighting, and other infractions of rules around the pools; maintains order.
- Rescues swimmers who are tired or having difficulties; applies artificial respiration or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), if necessary; administers first aid to cuts and other injuries suffered by swimmers.
- Teaches or assists in teaching swimming and life saving techniques and officiates at water contests and exhibitions.
- Makes routine chlorine tests of the swimming pool water.
- Assists in sweeping, mopping, and picking up refuse in assigned pool areas and buildings.
- Assists in maintaining records of work activities and daily participation.
- Assists in preparation of activity reports as necessary.
- Performs related duties as required.
- Must demonstrate knowledge of swimming and lifesaving techniques, first aid methods and
necessary safety precautions for swimming activities. - Must demonstrate skill in swimming and in the application of lifesaving techniques including Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and first aid treatment.
- Must demonstrate ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers and fractions.
Qualifications
REQUIRES
- Must be at least 16 years of age and have of a current lifeguard certificate or shallow water lifeguarding certificate as issued by the American Red Cross, Ellis, StarGuard, or the YMCA.
- Must pass a background check as prescribed by the City.
- Will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Must pass a physical examination as prescribed by the City.

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained. Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
