Description
The City of Foster City is looking for an individual with a strong work ethic, excellent customer service skills, and a passion for community service to fill the part-time
Office Assistant I/II position. This is an entry-level position that will provide administrative support to the Parks and Recreation Department at the Community Center Annex and Community Center, as needed. Eligible candidates may also be considered for other City department vacancies.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable engaging with the public, possess strong attention to detail, and is extremely organized. This individual should be able to multi-task effectively, manage marketing and social media posts, and demonstrate flexibility by assisting with committee meeting minutes once a month in the evenings, if needed.
Education and Training Guidelines Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way would be:
Education : Graduation from high school or equivalent, with coursework in modern office procedures, typing, English, and arithmetic.
Experience : One year of full time, paid office experience. Graduation from an accredited community college with a business major, or completion of a business college curriculum equivalent to community college may be substituted for the required experience. One year of Office Assistant I experience is required for the Office Assistant II position.
Management reserves the right to offer the higher level
Office Assistant II
position to candidates whose qualifications meet the established criteria.
Special RequirementsAbility to move boxes and light equipment; ability to learn, retain, and use technical terminology, equipment, and computer applications. Mental alertness and comprehension of the abilities listed above.

This position will receive 3/4 of the AFSCME bargaining unit benefits. Selection ProcessApplications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process.
The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner.
The department will invite the most qualified candidates from the eligibility list to a final department interview. The Parks & Recreation Department will make the hiring decision.

Note: Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee that a candidate will be invited to participate in the selection process. The City of Foster City reserves the right, at its discretion, to limit the number of qualified candidates invited to the selection process.
