The Director of Maritime is a senior executive of the Port, reporting to and serving at the pleasure of the Executive Director. The Director has overall responsibility for the strategic direction, fiscal management, administration and operations of the Port’s Maritime Division.

The Director provides strategic and operational leadership for the Port’s maritime business, with responsibility for advancing the Seaport’s competitive position, strengthening relationships with customers and industry partners, and ensuring the efficient and financially sustainable operation of its maritime assets. As a member of the Port’s senior leadership team, the Director will play a central role in shaping the future of one of Northern California’s most important international trade gateways.

Examples of Duties

The Director will bring in-depth knowledge of maritime shipping, transportation logistics and/or related international trade industries, with particular expertise in container terminal operations and finance. Candidates should have strong familiarity with marine terminal procedures, agreements, tariffs, pricing structures, facilities, and applicable federal and state regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate will bring at least seven years of progressively responsible maritime operations experience, including a minimum of three years in a senior executive leadership capacity as the senior or second-ranking executive of a division or organization. Candidates should have demonstrated experience leading an organization of comparable scale and complexity, including responsibility for a significant operating budget and workforce.
